Important update from Action Deafness

Posted on January 13, 2010 by janeholden

Last night Action Deafness held its AGM. This was followed by a community meeting to talk about the future of the charity. The Trustees have made the very difficult decision to close the Welford Road building and move to smaller, more manageable and economical premises.

This does not mean that the services will stop or that the User Groups will no longer have a place to meet. Action Deafness wants to form a “Working Group” with representatives from the User Groups and the Community, alongside Trustees and Staff Members, to find alternative premises. The views of the community will definitely be taken into account at each decision stage and information fed back to the Working Group through the designated representatives. This will help the organisation to develop for the future.

There will be a further meeting on January 26th, 2010 at Welford Road at 7pm. At this meeting representatives will be chosen by members of the community and user groups.

The move to new premises means that the charity and the Diocese will work alongside the Chaplain to find a new church base for the congregation. Action Deafness pledges its commitment to finding this new church base for the Deaf and hard of hearing congregation.

Action Deafness welcomes views and ideas from the community regarding the relocation of activities. Comments posted on the blog page will be fed back to the working group.
