AD Cultural - HearNow

Introduction

Action Deafness is now running an exciting new pioneering project called "HearNow", aimed at Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deafened and Deafblind (D/deaf) people from Black, Minority and Ethnic (BME) backgrounds. The aim of the project is to work alongside BME D/deaf people to encourage participation in and access to a wide range of services such as accessibility to voluntary work, employment, housing advice, benefits advice, one to one and/or group IAG (Information, Advice and Guidance) support, communication/language support and outreach work.

  • Based at Action Deafness covering Leicester City/Leicestershire
  • No age limits
  • Funded by The Big Lottery Fund for 3 years

'HearNow' will be offering free deaf awareness training for organisations and BSL Level one classes for relatives, friends and work colleagues of D/deaf BME individuals, following our given criteria for the BME D/deaf community.  We are also looking for volunteers to support and work with D/deaf people.

Throughout the three year project we aim to raise awareness of the issues surrounding BME D/deaf people within the Leicester City area.  We are confident that the project will make a difference to their lives.

If you are D/deaf from BME background, have a D/deaf member of your family or know someone who is, please contact Jaz Mann, Lead Development Officer at jazmann@actiondeafness.org.uk or on 07817261835 (voice or SMS).
