Information, Advice & Guidance

  • I want to learn how to use a computer at college, how will I understand the hearing teacher?
  • I want to write a CV, but I do not know how.
  • I would like to learn sign language and work with deaf people.

Our qualified IAG advisers can signpost you in the right direction, providing information and advice to help you achieve your goals. This service is available to Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Deafblind people, who would like to start a course, find work or training.

Our IAG staff are qualified BSL users and are Deaf aware. They will ensure that finding a new job or course is centred on you and not on your deafness or communication needs. Referrals are made to organisations, training providers and colleges who work with Action Deafness to ensure full access to their services. We also strive to provide access to courses specifically aimed at Deaf learners - such as numeracy, literacy and computer courses.

Action Deafness' Information, Advice and Guidance service also supports hearing people who are interested in learning BSL or working within the D/deaf community. Our IAG staff will be able to provide advice on choosing a suitable course to your needs, and refer you to other departments who may also be able to assist.  IAG can also guide you through the Signature framework in achieving your final career goals.

This service is available across Leicester and Leicestershire, with outreach facilities available in Loughborough.
