Track your spending. Keep weekly and monthly totals to prevent overspending.

Develop a realistic budget and stick to it!

Instead of buying an item, think of alternate ways of getting it, like borrowing or sharing.

If necessary, go on a spending or credit "diet." Have a "spend nothing week."

Shop with a list. It will help you avoid impulse spending.

Think twice before buying. Ask yourself, "Do I really need this?"

Pay more than the minimum on credit-card payments. You'll pay off the balance faster and save more by paying less in interest.

Pay bills on time to avoid late charges and a negative credit report.

Plan to save. You should have at least three months of your living expenses in reserve.

If you are not sure of something - ask for help.

Managing Your Money

Hello, I'm Peter Holden and my company is Willow Financial Management. My company provides independent financial advice to individuals. The company was formed in 1990 and we are regulated directly by the Financial Services Authority. The company today is one of the most well known Independent Financial Advisory practices in the Midlands and we have reached the final three in the last three years New Model Advisor awards, although we're still striving to win. Dealing with money is one of the most difficult things we all have to do in life. There is precious little training on money from schools and colleges, but everyone does need to learn to manage their money so we are in control of it and to avoid money being in control of us.

I am delighted to be invited to help Action Deafness with the Transformation project and hope we can genuinely help you, no matter where you are with your money planning today. We have discussed how to approach matters long and hard and recognise that the audience will all be at different stages with different areas they want to learn. Our plan therefore is to break the sessions down into a number of categories so by attending you learn what it is you want to learn.

Money matters can be frightening and confusing and our role is to breakdown those barriers and hopefully make it much easier and maybe even fun.

  • We hope to be able to teach you how to manage your money by budgeting
  • Helping you know where to turn to for help and ensure you are getting what you deserve.
  • How to open a bank account and which banks to use
  • To manage any debts and how to live free of the shackles of debt.
  • To think and plan for the future, financially, and then how to create a plan to achieve those goals.

I hope to make it fun, educational and inspiring to you all and I look forward to meeting with you soon.
