Volunteering can be a fun and exciting activity that can provide lots of benefits to both you and our organisation. Please see the comments below that have been expressed by some of our current volunteers:

Since volunteering for Action Deafness, Leicester, I have had the opportunity to attend a number of fantastic events. It's a privilege to work alongside such enthusiastic and friendly staff. The events have always been imaginative and varied and I especially enjoyed volunteering for a fashion show that was held at the Leicester Tiger's ground last December. The show was a complete success, I met some fantastic people and I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of it

Volunteering at Action Deafness is really enjoyable and the deaf people are so friendly! The commitment isn't too great and there's never any pressure to do more than you have time for - you can just commit according to your availability. It's a great way to improve your signing skills and also to understand a little more about what life is like for a deaf person. I particularly enjoyed the open day and learnt a great deal from it.

Hard, long hours doing uninteresting work is often your first thought when told about volunteering. When I was introduced to the V-involved scheme at college though, it seemed a great idea. I had to complete fifty hours of volunteering in a year and, in turn, I would receive a V50 award which would look fantastic on my university applications and CV! I did think at first though that it would involve doing hard, long hours of uninteresting work. When I arrived for my first morning volunteering at Action Deafness, however, I realised that volunteering could actually involve having a great time. I'd had some experience with sign language previously and my volunteering experience really helped me to improve these skills with hearing and deaf people. There were staff to explain anything you were unsure of and doing mainly office work I felt that I was actually helping others, no matter how many mistakes I made! My experience was invaluable and I met some really influential people which I'm hoping to work with again in the future on any of the events that they may need me for. The best thing about it was that there was no pressure to meet deadlines or do perfect work- I was able to help others, complete hours for my award and have fun at the same time. One member of staff even helped me with learning some new signs to match popular song lyrics! I really enjoyed myself working at Action Deafness and it was most definitely not hard, long or uninteresting!
